How this calculator works
A United States nickel is worth five cents, or one twentieth of a dollar. Converting nickels to dollars divides the count by twenty, and converting dollars to nickels multiplies by twenty. A standard roll holds 40 nickels, which is $2.00. Because five cents divides one dollar evenly, every whole number of dollars gives a whole number of nickels.
Formula
dollars = nickels x 0.05 = nickels / 20. nickels = dollars x 20. Nickels per dollar = 20. A roll of 40 nickels is $2.00.
Worked example
100 nickels is $5.00. 20 nickels is $1.00. $3.75 is 75 nickels. 40 nickels, one standard roll, is $2.00.
