How this calculator works
The euro is divided into 100 cents, so one cent is one hundredth of a euro. Converting cents to euros divides by 100; converting euros to cents multiplies by 100. No exchange rate is involved because the cent and the euro are two names for the same currency, just as a Canadian cent is one hundredth of a Canadian dollar.
Formula
euros = cents / 100. cents = euros x 100. Amounts with fractions of a cent cannot be paid in cash and are usually rounded to the nearest whole cent according to the rule in use.
Worked example
1,234 cents = 12.34 euros. 5 euros = 500 cents. 99 cents = 0.99 euros.

Frequently asked questions
Does this convert euros to another currency?
No. It only changes the unit between cents and euros. Converting euros to dollars or pounds requires a current exchange rate, which changes constantly and is not applied here.
How are amounts rounded?
Cash payments must be a whole number of cents. Some countries round the final total of a cash payment to the nearest five cents, but the underlying account balance is still recorded to the cent. This calculator does not apply national cash rounding rules.
Why use cents instead of euros?
Prices and accounting entries are often stored in the smallest unit to avoid decimal rounding errors. A value of 1234 cents is an exact integer, while 12.34 euros is a decimal that must be stored carefully.
