How this calculator works
One crore is 10,000,000 and one million is 1,000,000, so one crore is exactly ten million. The Indian system uses lakh and crore, while international reports use million and billion. The full number removes any ambiguity when the two systems are mixed.
Formula
millions = crores x 10. crores = millions / 10. 1 crore = 10,000,000. 1 million = 1,000,000.
Worked example
1 crore = 10 million = 10,000,000. 25 crore = 250 million = 250,000,000. 3.5 million = 0.35 crore.

Frequently asked questions
Is 1 crore 10 million?
Yes. A crore is 10,000,000 and a million is 1,000,000, so a crore contains ten millions. The lakh step in between is 100,000.
How do I read a crore amount in English?
Multiply by ten to get millions. For example, 12 crore is 120 million. For billions, divide the million figure by 1,000, so 12 crore is 0.12 billion.
Why do Indian budgets use crores?
The lakh and crore are familiar in South Asian languages and make large rupee amounts shorter to say and write. A 1,00,00,00,000 rupee budget is one hundred crore rupees under that convention.
