How this calculator works
A dollar is divided into 100 cents. A United States penny is one cent, and the Canadian one-cent coin was also one cent before it was withdrawn from circulation. Converting cents to dollars divides by 100, and converting dollars to cents multiplies by 100. The scale menu multiplies the number you type by ten, one hundred, one thousand and so on, so 3 thousand cents is 3,000 cents. No exchange rate is involved because cents and dollars are two units of the same currency.
Formula
dollars = cents / 100. cents = dollars x 100. With a scale S, cents = entered value x S in cents mode, and dollars = entered value x S in dollars mode. Coins per dollar = 1 / 0.01 = 100.
Worked example
1,000 cents is $10.00, which is also 1,000 pennies. 25 cents is $0.25. $12.34 is 1,234 cents. 2 million cents is 20,000 dollars.

Is a penny the same as a cent?
Yes. A penny is the one-cent coin, so one penny is one cent and 100 pennies make one dollar. This page converts the same amount whether you call the unit cents or pennies.
How many cents are in a dollar?
Exactly 100. The dollar is a decimal currency, so each cent is one hundredth of a dollar.
Does this convert Canadian cents to US dollars?
No. It changes the unit within one currency. Converting Canadian cents to US dollars requires a current exchange rate, which this calculator does not apply.
