How this calculator works
The hourly wage is multiplied by paid weekly hours, then by paid weeks in the year. Paid leave belongs in paid weeks; unpaid weeks do not. This is straight-time gross pay before income tax or deductions. Overtime premiums, bonuses and benefits are excluded. The monthly result is an annual average.
Formula
Weekly gross = w × h; annual gross = w × h × n; average monthly gross = annual gross/12. w is the hourly wage, h is paid hours per week and n is paid weeks per year.
Worked example
At $25 an hour for 40 paid hours a week and 52 paid weeks, gross earnings are $1,000 per paid week, $52,000 per year and an average $4,333.33 per month. At $20 for 20 hours over 48 paid weeks, annual gross is $19,200.
