How this calculator works
A shift contains exactly 12 paid hours. Enter how many receive regular pay and supply the actual overtime rate. The remaining hours receive overtime pay. Canadian federal rules commonly use daily and weekly thresholds, but averaging agreements and provincial rules differ. This worksheet does not determine overtime entitlement. No tax year applies to the arithmetic.
Formula
Shift pay = regular wage x regular hours + overtime wage x (12 - regular hours). Average hourly pay = shift pay / 12. Annual pay = shift pay x shifts per week x paid weeks.
Worked example
Eight hours at $25 plus four at $37.50 gives $350 per shift. Three shifts weekly over 52 paid weeks gives $54,600 annually.

Frequently asked questions
Are all hours after eight overtime?
That depends on the applicable employment rules and any valid averaging arrangement. Enter the hours actually paid at each rate.
Do unpaid meal breaks count?
This tool assumes 12 paid hours. If the shift includes unpaid breaks, use the general overtime calculator with actual paid hours.
Can I work backwards from shift pay?
Yes. Select a wage or regular hours. Impossible targets and rates that cannot identify a unique answer are rejected.
