How this calculator works
Each room is treated as a rectangle measured wall to wall, and the room areas are added. Both totals appear because Canadian suppliers quote metres squared first while US plans often use square feet; the exact factor is 1 ft² = 0.09290304 m². Subtract openings in the flooring or paint calculator that needs a net area, not here.
Formula
Total area = Σ (Lᵢ × Wᵢ). m² = ft² × 0.09290304; ft² = m² ÷ 0.09290304.
Worked example
A 12 × 20 ft living room plus an 8 × 10 ft den totals 320.0 ft², which is 29.73 m². A single 4.0 × 5.0 m room is 20.00 m², or 215.28 ft².

Frequently asked questions
Should I measure into doorways and closets?
Measure wall to wall and include closets; skip the doorway overlap between two rooms so the shared strip is not counted twice.
Why does the paint or flooring tool not use this total directly?
Those tools subtract waste, openings or buy units, so they redo the net area themselves. This page answers the plain measurement question.
Can I measure more than three rooms?
No. The form has three room pairs. For extra rooms, calculate each area separately and add the results.
