How this calculator works
Uncoupled series inductors carry the same current, and their induced voltages add. Their equivalent inductance is therefore the sum. Magnetic coupling adds mutual-inductance terms that depend on winding direction and is excluded here. Coil winding resistance is also separate from inductance.
Formula
Equivalent = sum(component values); missing = desired total - sum(known values).
Worked example
Inductors of 1, 2 and 3 H in series have an equivalent 6 H. To reach 5 H with known values 1 and 2 H, add 2 H.

Frequently asked questions
Can I enter a list?
Yes. Separate one to ten positive component values with commas, spaces or new lines.
What if the target is too small?
No positive series component can reduce the total. Choose a larger target or change the network.
Are real component effects included?
No. Use measured values where possible and account separately for tolerances, temperature, parasitics and any magnetic coupling.
