How this calculator works
At ideal resonance the inductor and capacitor reactances are equal in magnitude and opposite in sign. Energy cycles between magnetic and electric storage. Their product determines the natural frequency. Resistance determines damping and bandwidth in an RLC circuit; parasitic capacitance, inductor losses and component tolerances can shift a real circuit away from this ideal result.
Formula
omega0 = 1/sqrt(LC); f0 = omega0/(2 pi); L = 1/(omega0²C); C = 1/(omega0²L); XL = XC = omega0 L.
Worked example
With L = 1 H and C = 1 F, angular resonance is 1 rad/s, frequency is 0.15915494 Hz and each reactance magnitude is 1 ohm.

Frequently asked questions
What units should inductance use?
Enter henries: 1 mH is 0.001 H and 1 microhenry is 0.000001 H.
Does resonance mean zero impedance?
Only an ideal series LC pair has zero net reactance. Series resistance remains; an ideal parallel pair instead has zero net admittance.
Does this include coil self-capacitance?
No. Add parasitic elements to a more complete model when they matter.
