How this calculator works
Extent is the percentage of total body surface affected, assessed with an age-appropriate diagram. Regional mode adds contributions already expressed as shares of total body surface; it does not apply anatomical weights. Intensity uses a representative area for each sign, with dryness assessed on uninvolved skin. Itch and sleep loss each use a 0-10 visual analogue rating over three days or nights. The result is an estimate for information only and is not medical advice.
Formula
SCORAD = A/5 + 7B/2 + C. A ranges from 0 to 100; B is the sum of six 0-3 signs; C is itch plus sleep loss. Objective SCORAD = A/5 + 7B/2.
Worked example
With 20% affected area, intensity sum 6, itch 4 and sleep loss 3, SCORAD = 4 + 21 + 7 = 32 and objective SCORAD is 25. Maximum values give 20 + 63 + 20 = 103.

Frequently asked questions
What does 5% for the head mean?
It means affected head and neck skin accounts for 5% of the whole body surface. It does not mean 5% of the head. Obtain regional contributions from the appropriate SCORAD diagram.
Can adults and children use identical area weights?
No. The official diagram provides different head and lower-limb weights for children under two. This page accepts the final assessed extent instead of guessing those weights.
Can I compare objective SCORAD with total SCORAD?
They have different ranges. Objective SCORAD excludes the itch and sleep ratings, so compare the same index over time.
