How this calculator works
One billion is 1,000,000,000 on the short scale used in Canada and the United States. Dividing a plain number by that value gives billions, and multiplying a billion value by it gives the full number. The full digits are shown without extra rounding, apart from the limit of the numeric input.
Formula
billions = number / 1,000,000,000. number = billions x 1,000,000,000. A number of 2.5 billion is 2,500,000,000.
Worked example
2,500,000,000 = 2.5 billion. 12,000,000,000 = 12 billion. 0.125 billion = 125,000,000. One billion is one thousand million.

Frequently asked questions
How do I turn billions into millions?
Multiply by 1,000. One billion is 1,000 million, so 2.5 billion is 2,500 million.
Is a billion 10^9 or 10^12?
This page uses 10^9, the short scale. Some languages and older documents use the long scale, in which a billion is 10^12. The full number readout makes the value explicit.
What is the largest number I can enter accurately?
The calculator uses standard double-precision numbers, which represent integers exactly up to 9,007,199,254,740,991. Larger values lose precision in the last digits, so use a financial or scientific tool when every digit matters.
