How this calculator works
Timekeeping divides the day into 24 hours of 60 minutes of 60 seconds, so a day is exactly 86,400 seconds and an hour is 3,600 seconds. Dividing hours by 24 gives days, and a decimal result is normal because most durations are not a whole number of days. This page uses the fixed 24-hour day. A calendar day that begins or ends inside a daylight saving change is 23 or 25 hours long, which matters for clocks but not for converting a measured duration.
Formula
days = hours / 24. hours = days x 24. 1 day = 24 h = 1,440 min = 86,400 s.
Worked example
72 h is 3 days. Half a day is 12 h. 1,000 h is 41.6667 days. 50 h is 2 days and 2 h, which is 2.08333 days. A 40-hour work week is 1.66667 days of elapsed time.

Frequently asked questions
Is a day always 24 hours?
An ordinary day is 24 hours, but a calendar day in a daylight saving zone is 23 or 25 hours when the clocks change. When the clocks spring forward, the day is 23 hours long; when they fall back, it is 25 hours long.
How do I show a result as days and hours?
Divide by 24 and keep the whole part, then multiply the remainder by 24. For 50 h, 50 / 24 = 2.08333, so the answer is 2 days and 2 hours.
Does a working day count as 24 hours?
No. A working day is usually 7.5 or 8 paid hours, and an office week is 35 to 40 hours. Converting to days this way counts elapsed clock time, not person-days of work.
Does this handle weeks or months?
No. A week is seven of these days, or 168 hours, and there are dedicated hours-to-weeks and hours-to-years pages. Months have no fixed length, so they are not converted here.
