How this calculator works
Greek isopsephy sums letter values from the alphabetic numeral system. Units, tens and hundreds each occupy nine positions; the historical signs stigma or digamma, koppa and sampi complete the series. Modern sigma and final sigma both count as 200. The tool removes accents and breathings, accepts either case and ignores punctuation and whitespace. It rejects unsupported letters and digits. Numeral thousands marks are not multipliers in this word-sum convention, and no predictive meaning is inferred.
Formula
Total = sum of the listed numeral values, once for each supported letter in the text.
Worked example
ΑΩ gives alpha 1 plus omega 800, totalling 801. Ἰησοῦς normalises to ΙΗΣΟΥΣ and gives 10 + 8 + 200 + 70 + 400 + 200 = 888.

Frequently asked questions
Is this the same as Hebrew gematria?
Both assign values to letters, but they use different alphabets and numeral tables.
How are accents handled?
Accents, breathings and combining marks are removed before values are looked up. Spelling still affects the sum.
Are historical signs supported?
Stigma and digamma count as 6, the numeral and archaic koppa forms as 90, and sampi as 900.
