How this calculator works
The bed area is multiplied by depth, then increased by the waste fraction. The cited clean-stone supplier gives approximately 1.8 tonnes per cubic metre. This is an example for that grading; road-base fines and compaction can require different figures.
Formula
A = L x W, pi x D^2 / 4, b x h / 2, or (front + back) x h / 2; Vnet = A x depth; Vorder = Vnet x (1 + waste); mass = Vorder x density; cost = tonnes x rate or Vorder x rate, plus fixed charges.
Worked example
A 10 m by 4 m base 0.1 m deep contains 4 m3. With 10% extra, the order is 4.4 m3 and 7.92 tonnes at 1800 kg/m3.

Frequently asked questions
Does stone size change the answer?
It can change bulk density and the usable layer depth. Enter the quarry density for the grading being ordered.
Are delivery costs included?
The optional fixed-charge field adds delivery or other quoted fees after the material charge.
Does waste compact the layer?
No. Waste adds material to the net takeoff. For a defined loose-volume reduction, use the road base calculator.
