How this calculator works
OST is a screening calculation based on age and body weight, not a fracture probability. The separate MORES model was developed in men aged at least 50: age contributes 0, 3 or 4, weight contributes 0, 4 or 6, and COPD contributes 3. MORES at least 6 was the original DXA referral threshold. Historical SCORE follows the archived 2002 USPSTF evidence table for postmenopausal women, including its original race category. That legacy model is not current screening guidance or a biological interpretation of race. It does not estimate fracture probability. Screening does not diagnose osteoporosis. The result is an estimate for information only and is not medical advice.
Formula
OST = 0.2 × (weight in kg - age in years). MORES = age points + weight points + COPD points. The OST result is not truncated. Historical SCORE = 3 × floor(age/10) - floor(weight lb/10) + 5 if not Black + 4 for rheumatoid arthritis + 4 per qualifying hip/wrist/rib fracture after age 45 (maximum 12) + 1 if never used oestrogen.
Worked example
Age 65 and weight 70 kg gives OST 1.0. For MORES, age 65 gives 3 plus weight 70 kg gives 6, total 9 without COPD.

Frequently asked questions
Is this FRAX?
No. FRAX estimates fracture probability using a separate model and country-specific data.
Who can use MORES?
The original model studied men aged 50 or older. It must not be presented as a score validated for women.
Why is OST not labelled high or low risk?
OST variants use different population thresholds and rounding conventions. This tool reports the stated arithmetic without mixing those variants.
