How this calculator works
The original CCI assigns disease weights of 1, 2, 3 or 6. A clinician must confirm the original diagnostic definitions. Liver disease, diabetes and solid tumours use one severity choice each to avoid double counting within those groups. Optional age adjustment adds one point per decade starting at 50, capped at four points. No individual survival percentage is inferred from this score; calibration depends on the population, era and outcome. The result is an estimate for information only and is not medical advice.
Formula
CCI = sum of disease weights. Age-adjusted CCI = CCI + age band points (0, 1, 2, 3 or 4).
Worked example
Prior infarction (1), diabetes with organ damage (2), and moderate renal disease (2) give CCI 5. At age 65, the age-adjusted total is 7.

Frequently asked questions
Why is there no ten-year survival percentage?
The commonly circulated exponential equation was not confirmed in the original instrument, so it is not used.
Can mild and severe liver disease both count?
No. Select the single highest applicable severity in each grouped condition.
Does HIV alone score six points?
No. The original category is AIDS; do not substitute HIV seropositivity without the instrument definition.
