How this calculator works
Complete the original DUDIT form using its drug definition, timeframe and response choices, then transfer the coded points. Items 1 through 9 accept 0, 1, 2, 3 or 4. Items 10 and 11 accept only 0, 2 or 4. Add all eleven without weighting or substituting unanswered questions. The source form excludes medicines taken as prescribed. This companion does not replace the authors' questionnaire layout or create an alternative translation. It reports the original total; diagnostic and population-specific cut-offs are not applied. The result is an estimate for information only and is not medical advice.
Formula
DUDIT = Q1 + Q2 + ... + Q11. Maximum = 9 x 4 + 2 x 4 = 44.
Worked example
Nine scores of 1 followed by 2 and 4 give 15. Eleven scores of 4 give 44.

Frequently asked questions
Why not answer the questions directly here?
Use the original form linked in Sources so its wording, drug list and response anchors remain intact. This tool checks and sums the coded points.
Does the total diagnose dependence?
No. DUDIT is a screening instrument. Clinical assessment and the relevant validation population determine interpretation.
Is DUDIT-C the same score?
No. DUDIT-C uses only the first four items. This page totals the complete eleven-item instrument.
