How this calculator works
The original Beighton examination records four paired limb findings and one trunk finding. Each positive finding contributes one point; left and right sides count separately. Elbow and knee criteria require more than 10 degrees of extension and the little-finger criterion more than 90 degrees. Findings should be assessed without forcing a joint. The score describes mobility in the tested movements. It neither examines every joint nor diagnoses a connective-tissue disorder, and no universal age-independent diagnostic cut-off is applied here. The result is an estimate for information only and is not medical advice.
Formula
Beighton score = number of positive findings among 2 little fingers + 2 thumbs + 2 elbows + 2 knees + 1 trunk movement. Range 0 to 9.
Worked example
Positive findings in both little fingers, both thumbs and the trunk total 5. A positive right elbow and left knee alone total 2.

Frequently asked questions
Do both sides count?
Yes. Each finger, thumb, elbow and knee is a separate one-point finding. The trunk test contributes one point in total.
Does exactly 10 degrees count for a knee or elbow?
The original description says beyond 10 degrees. A borderline measurement needs a proper clinical assessment.
Can the score diagnose Ehlers-Danlos syndrome?
No. It is only one examination measure. A diagnosis needs additional clinical criteria and assessment.
