How this calculator works
This is the original Aldrete-Kroulik score published in 1970, using colour as its fifth observation. Each observation contributes 0, 1 or 2 points. The later modified score substitutes oxygen saturation and is a different version. A clinician assigns each category from an examination; the form does not infer a category from an unrounded blood-pressure measurement. The original pressure descriptions meet at 20% and 50%, so the clinician must use the original protocol and local policy for borderline readings. The total describes recovery status and does not independently authorise discharge. The result is an estimate for information only and is not medical advice.
Formula
Original Aldrete = activity + respiration + circulation + consciousness + colour. Five components of 0 to 2 points produce a total of 0 to 10.
Worked example
Five 2-point observations total 10. Activity 2, respiration 1, circulation 1, consciousness 1 and colour 2 total 7.

Frequently asked questions
Is this the modified oxygen-saturation score?
No. This page is labelled as the original 1970 version and retains colour. Do not mix its result with a modified scoring chart.
Does a score of 10 mean automatic discharge?
No. Pain, bleeding, nausea, airway concerns and local discharge criteria still require a clinical assessment.
Can I solve backwards for a clinical observation?
No. Many combinations have the same total. A missing observation must be assessed rather than inferred from the score.
