How this calculator works
Total serum protein is the sum of albumin and globulins. When globulin is not measured separately, subtract albumin from total protein. The A/G ratio compares albumin with that globulin concentration and has no units. A non-positive inferred globulin makes the ratio undefined. Both concentrations must use compatible units; this page converts g/L inputs to g/dL for its concentration outputs. The result is an estimate for information only and is not medical advice.
Formula
Globulin = total protein - albumin. A/G = albumin / globulin. Albumin from total and A/G: total x A/G / (1 + A/G).
Worked example
Albumin 4 g/dL and total protein 7 g/dL give globulin 3 g/dL and A/G 1.3333. Albumin 45 g/L and total protein 75 g/L give globulin 30 g/L and A/G 1.5.

Frequently asked questions
Does changing g/dL to g/L change the ratio?
No, provided both numeric concentrations are converted consistently.
Why is total protein below albumin rejected?
Total protein includes albumin, so a lower total would imply a negative globulin concentration.
Can the ratio diagnose liver disease?
No. Results need the laboratory reference interval and the rest of the clinical assessment.
