How this calculator works
ANC includes mature segmented neutrophils and immature band neutrophils. Both percentages must refer to the same white cell differential. Add the two fractions before multiplying by WBC. If the laboratory already reports a total neutrophil percentage that includes bands, use the calculator without bands to avoid counting them twice. This page gives arithmetic without assigning a treatment or infection-risk threshold. The result is an estimate for information only and is not medical advice.
Formula
ANC = WBC x (segmented neutrophils % + bands %) / 100.
Worked example
A WBC of 7000 cells/µL with 50% segmented neutrophils and 5% bands gives 3850 cells/µL. A WBC of 4000 with 20% segmented cells and 5% bands gives 1000 cells/µL.

Frequently asked questions
Should I add bands to a total NEUT percentage?
Only add them if the report lists a mature-neutrophil fraction that excludes bands. Check the laboratory definition.
Can ANC be zero?
Yes. Zero is a valid arithmetic result; this page cannot determine its cause or the required care.
Why does solving WBC sometimes fail?
If both neutrophil fractions are zero, ANC cannot uniquely determine the total white cell count.
