How this calculator works
A differential may give a total neutrophil percentage, often labelled NEUT, or list mature cells and bands separately. This calculator lets you state which interpretation applies. The labels POLY and SEGS are not consistent across laboratories, so confirm whether bands are included. For a total percentage, there is no separate band input. For a split report, both fractions are added once. The result is an estimate for information only and is not medical advice.
Formula
Total report: ANC = WBC x total neutrophil fraction. Split report: ANC = WBC x (mature fraction + band fraction).
Worked example
6000 white cells/µL and a total NEUT of 60% gives ANC 3600 cells/µL. With separate SEGS 45% and bands 5%, the same WBC gives 3000 cells/µL.

Frequently asked questions
Are POLY and NEUT always equivalent?
No. The report and laboratory definition determine whether the value includes bands.
Is missing band data the same as zero bands?
No. Use a total fraction only when the laboratory confirms that it represents all neutrophils.
Can I enter cells/mm³?
Yes. It is numerically identical to cells/µL; select the cells/µL option.
