How this calculator works
Tax years: 2026/27, 2022/23 and 2021/22, each from 6 April to 5 April. Add employment earnings, net self-employment profit and taxable net rent. Income Tax uses the selected location's bands and the Personal Allowance taper above GBP 100,000. National Insurance uses annual thresholds, with the director annual basis for 2022/23 Class 1. For mixed employment and self-employment, contributions are shown before HMRC combined-class relief and can overestimate liability. Student loans use annual repayment thresholds; rental income counts for loan purposes when it exceeds GBP 2,000. Monthly and weekly results are annual averages. This model assumes working age, a standard tax code and no savings, dividends, pension deductions or other reliefs.
Formula
Personal Allowance = max(0, GBP 12,570 - max(0, adjusted income - GBP 100,000) / 2). Net annual income = total income - progressive Income Tax - estimated worker National Insurance - student loan repayment. Loan estimate = 9% of applicable income above the selected plan threshold, limited to the entered remaining debt.
Worked example
In England in 2026/27, GBP 30,000 salary gives GBP 17,430 taxable income and GBP 3,486 Income Tax. Employee National Insurance is GBP 1,394.40 on the annual basis. With no student loan, estimated take-home income is GBP 25,119.60 a year, or GBP 2,093.30 a month.

Frequently asked questions
Why is Scotland different?
Scottish non-savings income uses separate bands. In 2026/27, the starter, basic, intermediate, higher, advanced and top rates are 19%, 20%, 21%, 42%, 45% and 48%.
Will this equal my payslip?
Not necessarily. PAYE tax codes, pay-period National Insurance, payroll rounding, bonuses, benefits and pension contributions affect payslips. This is a full-year estimate, and the 2022/23 Class 1 figure uses director annual rates.
Does the loan balance determine my annual repayment?
Normally income and plan determine repayments. The balance here only caps the estimated final-year payment. Interest, payroll timing, postgraduate loans and simultaneous plans are excluded.
Can I enter rental losses?
Enter the taxable net rental amount after applying property-income rules. Do not offset a rental loss against salary here; loss carry-forwards and finance-cost tax credits require separate calculations.
