How this calculator works
A linear mil, also called a thou, is 0.001 inch. With the exact international inch, one mil is 0.0000254 m or 0.00254 cm. The equivalents table includes micrometres, millimetres and inches so a thickness specification can be compared across drawings.
Formula
cm = mils x 0.00254; mils = cm / 0.00254; um = mils x 25.4; inches = mils / 1000.
Worked example
A 10 mil sheet is 0.0254 cm, 0.254 mm or 254 um thick. A 0.0127 cm layer is 5 mils.
