How this calculator works
A centimetre is 0.01 m and a millimetre is 0.001 m. Exactly ten millimetres fit into one centimetre. Multiplying a centimetre reading by ten changes its unit without improving the original measurement precision.
Formula
millimetres = centimetres x 10; centimetres = millimetres / 10.
Worked example
A 2.35 cm component is 23.5 mm. A 7 mm gap is 0.7 cm.

Frequently asked questions
How many millimetres are in 1 cm?
Exactly 10 mm.
Does conversion create a more accurate measurement?
No. A ruler reading retains its original measurement uncertainty even when expressed with more digits.
Are negative lengths allowed?
This tool uses physical length magnitudes, so it accepts zero and positive values. Use a signed coordinate calculation for displacement.
