How this calculator works
The prefix centi means one hundredth. Exactly 100 centimetres fit into one metre, so divide by 100 to move from centimetres to metres and multiply by 100 to reverse the conversion. This converts a length only; area and volume need squared or cubed factors.
Formula
metres = centimetres / 100; centimetres = metres x 100.
Worked example
A 245 cm wall measurement is 2.45 m. A 0.075 m component is 7.5 cm.

Frequently asked questions
Is the factor exactly 100?
Yes. It follows directly from the SI definition of the centi prefix.
Does the same factor convert cm2 to m2?
No. For area, divide by 10,000; for volume in cm3, divide by 1,000,000.
Can a small length be less than 0.01 m?
Yes. For example, 0.5 cm is 0.005 m. Decimals are retained until display rounding.
