How this calculator works
A micron is a micrometre. A mil is one thousandth of an inch, and the international inch is exactly 25.4 mm. Combining those definitions gives exactly 25.4 microns per mil. This is useful for comparing packaging film and coating thickness specifications.
Formula
mils = microns / 25.4; microns = mils x 25.4.
Worked example
A 76.2 micron film is exactly 3 mils thick. A 2.5 mil coating is exactly 63.5 microns.
