How this calculator works
A US liquid gallon is exactly 231 cubic inches, or 3.785411784 L. A US liquid pint is one eighth of that gallon, or 473.176473 mL, so a gallon contains exactly eight pints. The same gallon divides into four quarts or sixteen US customary cups. The imperial pint used in the United Kingdom and in some Canadian beer service is larger at 568.26125 mL, so an imperial pint is about 20 per cent more than a US pint. This page uses US liquid pints only.
Formula
pints = gallons x 8. gallons = pints / 8. 1 US gal = 8 US pt = 4 US qt = 16 US cups.
Worked example
1 gal is 8 pt. Half a gallon is 4 pt. A 5 gal keg holds 40 US pints. 10 gal is 80 pt. 24 pints is 3 gal, and 1 pint is 0.125 gal.
