How this calculator works
The cited field manual gives indicative intact limestone and granite densities of 2600 kg/m3 and sandstone of 2500 kg/m3. Crushed limestone at 1800 kg/m3 describes bulk fill with voids, not a solid slab. Replace these reference values with quarry tests for the stone being supplied.
Formula
Rectangular face A = length x width; circular face A = pi x diameter^2 / 4; total volume = A x thickness x number of pieces; total mass = total volume x density; cost = mass x price per kg, or volume x price per m3.
Worked example
A limestone slab 2 m by 1 m by 0.1 m has 0.2 m3 volume and an indicative mass of 520 kg at 2600 kg/m3.

Frequently asked questions
Should I choose crushed stone for a solid slab?
No. Use intact stone density for a solid piece. Bulk aggregate density includes voids and would understate a solid slab mass.
Can I calculate marble?
Yes. Select custom density and use the quarry test or manufacturer value for the exact marble. Do not substitute a limestone value automatically.
Does weight mean lifting load here?
The outputs are mass in kilograms, tonnes or pounds. They do not rate lifting equipment or account for attachments and handling conditions.
