How this calculator works
A uniform plate volume is its face area times thickness, with holes and cutouts excluded from the area. Density presets identify their material references rather than assigning one value to every alloy. Enter a net custom area for an irregular plate or a plate with holes.
Formula
Rectangle A = L x W; square A = side^2; circular A = pi x D^2 / 4; net custom A excludes holes. V = A x thickness x quantity; mass = V x density; thickness = mass / (A x quantity x density).
Worked example
One 2 m by 1 m plate at 20 mm thickness contains 0.04 m3. At 7850 kg/m3 it weighs 314 kg.

Frequently asked questions
Can I include cutouts?
Choose other shape: known area and enter the face area after subtracting holes. Thickness must remain uniform.
How is a circular plate measured?
Enter the full diameter, not the radius. The face area is pi times diameter squared divided by four.
Can I estimate ceramics?
Yes. Use custom density from the ceramic product data and an appropriate net area. The tool does not infer density from a material trade name.
