How this calculator works
Pilkington lists soda-lime float glass at 2500 kg/m3, suitable for estimating annealed or tempered monolithic glass. SCHOTT lists BOROFLOAT 33 at 2230 kg/m3. Laminated and insulated assemblies need separate glass layers, interlayers, spacers and frames; custom density alone is only an effective-material approximation.
Formula
Rectangular A = L x W; triangular A = base x height / 2; ellipse A = pi x full major axis x full minor axis / 4; circular A = pi x D^2 / 4; semicircle A = pi x D^2 / 8; mass = A x thickness x density x quantity.
Worked example
A 1 m by 1 m pane at 6 mm thickness weighs 15 kg at 2500 kg/m3. A 2 m by 1 m pane of the same thickness weighs 30 kg.

Frequently asked questions
Does tempering change pane weight?
For the same finished dimensions, soda-lime annealed and tempered panes use essentially the same density estimate. Edge finishing and holes reduce actual mass.
How do I calculate laminated glass?
Calculate each glass layer and add the interlayer mass from its manufacturer. Do not treat an air gap or polymer layer as solid glass.
Are ellipse dimensions radii?
No. Enter full major and minor axes. The area is pi times the two axes divided by four.
