How this calculator works
Multiply project length and width, or use a measured area. Identical-area count repeats that project. Divide area with waste by one paver coverage and round up to a whole unit. Coverage dimensions may include a joint module if the manufacturer quotes installed units per area. Labour applies to the actual paved area, not the waste pieces.
Formula
pavers = ceil(project area x identical areas x (1 + waste) / paver coverage area); material cost = pavers x price; installation cost = net area x labour rate.
Worked example
A 10 m2 patio with 0.2 m by 0.1 m coverage needs 500 pavers before waste, or 550 with 10%. At $1 each plus $2/m2 labour the total is $570.

Frequently asked questions
Are joint widths included?
Use manufacturer installed coverage or module dimensions. Do not add joints again if they are already included in that coverage.
Does this choose a laying pattern?
No. Mixed-size patterns, borders and curved cuts need a layout and an allowance suited to the pattern.
Does the price include the base and sand?
No. The total adds the paver and labour rates you enter. Estimate excavation, base aggregate, sand and edging separately.
