How this calculator works
Calculate geometric area in square metres, then divide by the exact square-yard conversion. Triangle mode supports three sides, two sides with included angle, or two angles with the included side. Border cost uses the true calculated perimeter. Ellipse and known-area modes report area only, because a border length is not calculated for those modes. Add material and labour rates together before entering each rate.
Formula
square yards = square metres / 0.83612736; triangle area by Heron = sqrt[s(s-a)(s-b)(s-c)] where s = (a+b+c)/2; total cost = area x area rate + perimeter x border rate.
Worked example
A 3 m by 4 m rectangle is 12 m2, or 14.352 yd2, with a 14 m perimeter. A 3-4-5 m triangle has 6 m2 area and 12 m perimeter.

Frequently asked questions
Why are square yards different from linear yards?
Area squares the length conversion. A yard is 0.9144 m, so a square yard is 0.9144² = 0.83612736 m2.
Which side is included in ASA mode?
Side a lies between the two entered angles beta and gamma. The remaining angle is opposite side a.
Does the cost include material waste?
No. This calculator prices the geometric area and border. Apply a purchasing allowance separately for cutting or overlap.
