How this calculator works
This simple stem model takes the cylindrical volume implied by girth and merchantable height and scales it by a supplied form factor for taper and usable wood. Multiplication by a local stumpage quote produces a timber estimate. The default form factor and price are illustrative inputs, not species data or current market quotes. Actual volume tables, grade deductions and sale terms can differ. This estimates saleable stem wood, not landscape replacement, amenity or insurance value.
Formula
Volume = C² H f/(4 pi). Timber value = volume x CAD per m³. Here C is circumference, H is usable stem height and f is the supplied form factor.
Worked example
A trunk with circumference 2 pi m and 10 m merchantable height has cylindrical volume 31.4159 m³. With form factor 0.5 and supplied price $100/m³, estimated timber value is $1570.80.

Frequently asked questions
Why are there no species price presets?
Species alone does not fix value. Grade, access, local demand, sale costs and the contract basis affect the quote.
Can I price a tree in my garden?
This timber model does not price removal, replacement or amenity value. Yard trees can also be unsuitable for commercial harvesting.
What height belongs in the form?
Use the merchantable stem length accepted by the buyer or volume model, rather than total height to the highest twig.
