Dog size calculator

Explore an adult-weight scenario using your puppy's current weight and an estimated fraction of adult weight. Obtain that fraction from a suitable growth chart or your veterinarian. Age alone is not a reliable adult-size formula.

Calculator

Age is recorded for interpreting a growth chart. It does not set a growth fraction automatically.

Illustrative default only. Growth timing varies with breed, sex and size; enter an assessed value.

Adult-weight scenario

Growth-chart context
At 16 weeks, compare repeated weigh-ins on a suitable growth chart. This scenario depends on your supplied assumption; it is not a breed growth prediction.

How this calculator works

The tool rearranges a fraction, not a biological growth law. A suitable growth chart uses age, sex and likely adult-size category, and repeated measurements show the trajectory. Puppies do not gain weight at a constant weekly rate. Use this page to see what an explicit growth assumption implies, then review the result alongside parents, breed and veterinary measurements.

Formula

Adult-weight scenario = current weight / fraction grown. Current-weight scenario = adult weight × fraction grown. Fraction grown = current weight / assumed adult weight.

Worked example

A 6 kg puppy assumed to be 40% of adult weight gives 6 / 0.40 = 15 kg. If the assumption is 50%, the same puppy gives 12 kg. The assumption is a major source of uncertainty.

Frequently asked questions

Why does entering age not generate the estimate?

One age-to-size equation cannot describe different breed growth patterns. Enter a growth fraction assessed for your puppy.

Can I use this as a feeding target?

No. Feed an appropriate growth diet and monitor body condition and growth with your veterinarian.

What if the puppy changes growth channels?

Review the measurements and growth chart with your veterinary team, especially with rapid change or poor growth.
