How this calculator works
This dilute-gas estimate multiplies room air volume by the desired increase in CO2 volume fraction. It assumes uniform mixing, matched gas temperature and pressure, and negligible change in total room volume. Crop uptake, air exchange and leakage are excluded, so maintaining a concentration needs measured feedback. Ontario guidance describes how crop and ventilation conditions change demand.
Formula
CO2 volume ≈ room volume × (target ppm - current ppm)/1000000. Injection time = CO2 volume/flow rate.
Worked example
A 5 m × 4 m × 2 m room contains 40 m3. Raising it from 400 to 1000 ppm takes approximately 0.024 m3, or 24 L, of CO2. At 0.6 L/min the one-time addition takes 40 minutes.

Frequently asked questions
Is this a continuous dosing schedule?
No. The result is one theoretical addition. Plants and ventilation continuously change the concentration.
Can ppm by mass be used?
No. These ppm values are volume fractions. A mass concentration needs gas temperature, pressure and molar-mass conversions.
What if the room is already at the target?
Required gas and time are zero. A lower target cannot be reached by adding CO2. Use monitored greenhouse equipment; this estimate does not establish occupancy safety.
