How this calculator works
Grain bushels commonly use a commodity mass convention, while other agricultural products may use an approximate reference mass. This is separate from measuring the physical volume of grain in a bin. The presets use USDA standard weights: 56 lb for shelled corn, 60 lb for wheat and soybeans, 48 lb for barley, and 32 lb for oats. Additional references come from USDA Agricultural Handbook 697. Variable ranges have editable midpoint examples, which are not guaranteed trade or legal weights. Redtop uses the 14 lb Minnesota convention because the USDA handbook entry differs; verify the contract basis for the buyer and region. Contracts can always use a custom mass per bushel. No moisture or dockage adjustment is applied.
Formula
Commercial bushels = mass/(standard mass per bushel). CAD/kg = CAD/bushel divided by kg/bushel. Offer difference = total at bushel price minus total at mass price.
Worked example
One corn bushel corresponds to 25.40117272 kg using 56 lb. Two wheat bushels correspond to 54.4310844 kg. A $6 corn-bushel offer is about $0.2362/kg.
