How this calculator works
Every row describes the same rate of energy transfer. The table uses mechanical horsepower, metric horsepower and the international-table Btu as distinct definitions. One refrigeration ton is 12000 Btu (IT) per hour. Energy consumption also requires a running time.
Formula
P_W = value times its watt conversion factor. 1 W = 1 J/s; 1 kW = 1000 W; 1 hp = 745.6998715822702 W.
Worked example
1000 W equals 1 kW and 1000000 mW. One mechanical horsepower equals about 0.745700 kW.

Frequently asked questions
Are kW and kWh interchangeable?
No. Multiply power in kW by running hours to obtain energy in kWh.
Why are there two horsepower values?
Mechanical and metric horsepower use different exact definitions.
What does a refrigeration ton mean?
It is a cooling capacity of 12000 Btu (IT) per hour, not a mass.
