How this calculator works
This page implements the preferred historical formula in patent US6040531A, with calories, total fat and dietary fibre. It rounds half upward to a whole point as described in that patent. It does not impose a later fibre cap or estimate SmartPoints, PersonalPoints or the current WW programme. WW's modern food lists and zero-point rules require its own service. This tool is independent of WW. The result is an estimate for information only and is not medical advice.
Formula
Historical p = calories(kcal) / 50 + total fat(g) / 12 - fibre(g) / 5. Whole points = floor(p + 0.5), for non-negative p.
Worked example
For 200 kcal, 6 g fat and 2 g fibre, p = 4 + 0.5 - 0.4 = 4.1, which rounds to 4. For 250 kcal with 6 g fat and no fibre, 5.5 rounds to 6.

Frequently asked questions
Is this SmartPoints?
No. It is the historical published patent calculation, which uses different inputs.
Why is there no four-gram fibre cap?
The specific preferred formula cited here does not state that later programme rule. The version is kept explicit.
Can this assign my daily allowance?
No. It calculates a historical food-serving value, not a personalised programme allowance.
