How this calculator works
This page distributes a daily energy total without assuming that breakfast, lunch or dinner must have a particular share. Equal patterns are neutral arithmetic examples. Custom weights are relative: 1, 2, 1 means 25%, 50%, 25%. If you do not know the total, the optional adult EER inputs estimate it. Meal timing and medical nutrition plans require more context than this split provides. The result is an estimate for information only and is not medical advice.
Formula
Meal kcal = daily kcal x meal weight / sum of all meal weights. Equal meals use weights of 1.
Worked example
A 2400 kcal budget split across three equal meals gives 800 kcal each. Weights 1, 2, 1 give 600, 1200 and 600 kcal.

Frequently asked questions
Are equal meals recommended for everyone?
No. Equal division is just a starting arithmetic pattern.
Can I leave room for a snack?
Yes. Select a four- or five-meal pattern, or add a custom weight for a snack.
Can a meal have zero weight?
Yes, provided at least one weight is positive. The total allocated energy is preserved.
