How this calculator works
The selected factor relates a mass concentration to a molar concentration. The same cholesterol factor applies to total cholesterol and cholesterol carried in HDL, LDL or VLDL. Triglycerides use a different conventional factor. These rounded laboratory factors are retained in both directions. The result is an estimate for information only and is not medical advice.
Formula
Cholesterol: mg/dL = mmol/L x 38.67. Triglycerides: mg/dL = mmol/L x 88.57. Divide by the same factor to convert in the opposite direction.
Worked example
Cholesterol 193.35 mg/dL converts to 5 mmol/L. Triglycerides 177.14 mg/dL convert to 2 mmol/L.

Frequently asked questions
Can the cholesterol factor be used for triglycerides?
No. For example, the same 2 mmol/L represents 77.34 mg/dL cholesterol or 177.14 mg/dL triglycerides.
Does changing the direction convert a typed input?
Each direction has its own field. Read the two outputs for the converted pair; the selected analyte determines the factor.
Does converting a value interpret cardiovascular risk?
No. It changes units only. Interpretation depends on the full lipid profile and clinical circumstances.
