How this calculator works
Enter your actual out-of-pocket prices, including any coverage or fees. All money is Canadian dollars, with no exchange-rate conversion. Pack and device purchases round up because partial purchases cannot be bought. Long-acting mode assumes an initial procedure or device at the start and replacement when its entered lifespan expires; the exact end of the planning horizon does not trigger another purchase. The result is a budget, not a recommendation of a contraceptive method. The result is an estimate for information only and is not medical advice.
Formula
Purchases = ceiling(horizon months / months covered). Condom packs = ceiling(months × condoms per month / pack size). Total = main purchases × price + condom packs × pack price.
Worked example
At $30 per monthly supply for 12 months, main cost is $360. Using eight condoms monthly from packs of 12 at $15 requires eight packs, adding $120 for a total of $480.

Frequently asked questions
Are the default prices market quotes?
No. They are editable worked-example numbers, not current prices or coverage advice.
Does a permanent procedure need a replacement?
For this budget, enter a coverage duration longer than the entire horizon so it is counted once.
Does lower cost mean a better method?
No. Effectiveness, contraindications, preferences and infection protection need separate consideration.
