How this calculator works
US tax years: 2022, 2023, 2024, 2025 and 2026. The federal estimate applies the selected filing-status brackets after the larger of standard or entered itemized deductions. It assumes ordinary income and a filer under 65 who is not another taxpayer's dependent. Enter AGI from your return; leave the extra retirement field at zero if that deduction is already reflected in AGI. Covered wages are separate because retirement deferrals usually remain subject to FICA. The USD 500 credit is only for eligible other dependents, with income phaseout; child credits and refundable credits are excluded. Property tax is shown separately using your taxable value and effective local rate.
Formula
Taxable income = max(0, AGI - additional allowed pretax contribution - deduction). Federal tax is the sum of each taxable bracket slice times its rate, less the limited other-dependent credit. Employee FICA = 6.2% of wages up to the year's Social Security base + 1.45% of wages + 0.9% above the filing-status Additional Medicare threshold. Property tax estimate = taxable property value x combined effective rate.
Worked example
In 2026, a single filer with USD 26,100 AGI and covered wages, no extra deductions and no dependents has USD 10,000 taxable income after the USD 16,100 standard deduction. Federal tax is USD 1,000 and FICA is USD 1,996.65, leaving USD 23,103.35.

Frequently asked questions
Does Texas tax my salary?
Texas has no individual income tax. Federal income and payroll taxes can still apply. Sales taxes and local property taxes are separate from salary income tax.
Why is there no county lookup?
A property can lie within school, city, county and special districts with different exemptions and rates. Use a combined effective rate from the relevant bill or local tax office for the selected year.
Does this predict my refund or exact payslip?
No. It estimates annual liability from the supplied income. Withholding, credits, capital-gain rates, self-employment tax, AMT, net investment income tax and detailed itemized-deduction limits can change a filed return. The pay-period figure divides annual remaining income evenly.
Can I enter retirement contributions twice?
No. If your AGI already excludes the contribution, leave the extra field at zero. Enter only an allowed amount after checking its eligibility and annual limit.
