How this calculator works

Late deduction uses 1% per month or part from the date tax was deductible to actual deduction. Once deposit is overdue, late-deposit interest uses 1.5% per month or part from deduction to payment, including the deduction month. Each touched calendar month counts; same-day deduction has no delay. Enter the deposit deadline actually applicable to your case. Quarterly filing mode uses standard non-government deadlines of 31 July, 31 October, 31 January and 31 May, with an official-extension override. Its INR 200 daily fee is capped at the tax amount. Tax law section numbers changed with the 2025 Act from April 2026; this tool models the stated charge conventions, not an assessment notice or other penalties.

Formula

Interest = tax x monthly rate x touched calendar months, only when overdue. Late-filing fee = min(tax, INR 200 x days after the applicable deadline).

Worked example

INR 10,000 deductible on 31 January but deducted on 1 February touches two months, giving INR 200 late-deduction interest. If deducted on 10 February and deposited on 10 March after a 7 March due date, two months at 1.5% give INR 300.

Frequently asked questions

Is a month always 30 days?

No. This estimate counts calendar months or parts. A delay crossing month end can touch two chargeable months in two days.

Why charge deposit interest from deduction?

Once the deposit is late, the stated rule measures interest from deduction to actual payment, rather than only from the payment deadline.

Does filing mode include all penalties?

No. It calculates the capped daily filing fee only. Other penalties, orders or special relief are excluded.
