How this calculator works
Tax year: 2024 general-rate model. General state tax is 4.225%. Qualifying food uses 1.225% state tax; local taxes still apply. Prepared food may not qualify. Check the government lookup for the purchase date and address. Exemptions, tax holidays, special taxes and filing returns are outside this estimate.
Formula
Tax = taxable price x statewide rate + local taxable base x additional local rate. Total = price + tax. For an eligible Florida single item, local base = min(price, $5,000).
Worked example
A $100 general taxable purchase with no additional local tax has $4.225 in tax before rounding and a $104.225 total. The general statewide rate used is 4.225%.
