How this calculator works
The Canadian general GST rate is 5% in the 2026 rate snapshot. Enter a different applicable rate for a zero-rated supply or another scenario. GST is charged on the before-tax price. This page isolates GST; HST, QST and PST are separate regimes. It does not estimate GST/HST credits or input tax credits.
Formula
GST = net price x rate. Gross price = net x (1 + rate). Net from gross = gross / (1 + rate). Implied rate = (gross - net) / net.
Worked example
A $100 taxable price at 5% has $5 GST and a $105 total. A $210 GST-inclusive price contains $200 before tax and $10 GST.

Frequently asked questions
Does GST apply to everything?
No. Some supplies are zero-rated or exempt. Determine the treatment before entering a rate.
Why not multiply the total by 5%?
The total already includes GST. Divide by 1.05 to recover its before-tax base.
What about HST or Quebec?
Use GST/QST for provincial components or sales tax for a general combined rate.
