How this calculator works
Add cash dividends paid per share in the last 12 months and divide by the supplied price for one share. Use the same currency and share basis for both amounts. This is a trailing dividend yield, excluding price gains, reinvestment, fees and tax. The chosen price is an input rather than a live quote.
Formula
Dividend yield = D/P, displayed as a percentage. D is trailing annual cash dividends per share and P is the positive share price used for valuation. A zero annual dividend gives a 0% yield.
Worked example
Trailing dividends of $2.40 per share and a $60 share price give a 4% annual dividend yield. If the trailing dividend is $0 at the same price, the yield is 0%.

Frequently asked questions
Does a high yield guarantee a good return?
No. Yield excludes changes in share price, and a falling price can raise the ratio. Past distributions do not promise future payments.
Can I substitute a forecast dividend?
This form labels its input as trailing dividends. A forecast produces a different, forward-looking measure and should be identified separately when comparing investments.
What price should I enter?
Use the price at which you want to value the position. The page does not fetch a live quote, so the yield changes with the price you supply.
