How this calculator works
Supply the fund's current annual expense ratio. The model deducts other costs once from the initial investment, applies a constant annual gross return, charges expenses annually on the grown balance and adds each contribution at year end. Fund tracking differences, spreads, tax, currency conversion and bitcoin price volatility are not forecast. Reverse modes recover the missing investment, contribution, fee or gross-return assumption. Time-to-target returns the first whole model year at or above the target.
Formula
Opening invested balance = initial amount - upfront costs. Each year: F_next = F_current(1+r)(1-expense ratio) + yearly contribution. Cost impact = fee-free final balance - final balance.
Worked example
Investing $1,000 with $10 upfront costs, 10% assumed gross return and a 1% expense ratio leaves $1,078.11 after one year without contributions. With no costs or fees, the same return gives $1,100.

Frequently asked questions
Does the expected return predict bitcoin prices?
No. It is a user-supplied scenario. Bitcoin-linked products can suffer large price changes and tracking differences.
Is a bitcoin ETP a diversified mutual fund?
No. Product structures and regulatory protections differ. Review the specific product documents rather than relying on the label in this tool.
How are upfront costs handled?
They are deducted once from the initial investment before growth and fees, so a $10 cost on a $1,000 investment starts the model at $990.
