How this calculator works
This is the same arithmetic as any fuel estimate: consumption is a rate per 100 kilometres, so the fuel needed is the distance multiplied by that rate and divided by 100. The pump price then converts litres into money. Everything is calculated at full precision and rounded only for display. The figure covers gasoline alone, not insurance, maintenance, parking or tolls.
Formula
fuel_litres = distance_km x litres_per_100km / 100. trip_cost = fuel_litres x price_per_litre.
Worked example
A 100 km drive at 8 L/100 km needs 8 litres. At $1.70 a litre the gas cost is $13.60.

Frequently asked questions
Does this use US or Imperial gallons?
Neither, unless you convert first. The inputs are kilometres and litres. Divide a US dollar per gallon price by 3.785411784 to get dollars per litre, or divide an Imperial gallon price by 4.54609.
What if my car displays mpg instead of L/100 km?
Measure a tank instead: divide litres used by kilometres driven and multiply by 100. The fuel-consumption calculator can do that conversion for you.
Does the estimate include a round trip?
No. Enter the total distance you will drive, so a return trip uses twice the one-way distance.
