How this calculator works

Mega means one million, so 1 MPa is exactly 1000000 Pa. A bar is exactly 100000 Pa; each MPa is therefore exactly 10 bar. This page changes the pressure unit without changing whether the original measurement was absolute or gauge.

Formula

bar = MPa x 10; MPa = bar / 10; Pa = MPa x 1000000.

Worked example

A 2.5 MPa specification is 25 bar and about 362.594344 psi. A 6 bar specification is 0.6 MPa.

Frequently asked questions

Is MPa a pressure or a force?

It is pressure, equal to force per area. One MPa is also one newton per square millimetre.

Can it convert a material strength?

Yes, if the quantity is a stress expressed in MPa. The tool changes units without judging the material.

Does this calculate gauge pressure?

The same-reference conversion preserves the input reference. Use MPa to psig when atmospheric subtraction is required.
